Baghdad Bob and the Car Dealer
The resemblance can be uncanny

For weeks prior to coalition forces taking control of Baath party strongholds in Iraq, Saddam’s Minister of Information – tagged affectionately by the press as “Baghdad Bob” – would stand in front of the cameras and proclaim that Iraqi forces were holding off, pushing back and even wiping out the attacking American and British armies. One account has him going so far as to suggest that Iraqi troops had landed in New York and secured one of our airports.

Car Dealer Connection

Unless you’re as ignorant as many of the helpless Iraqi people, I’m sure you don’t need me to explain how shamefully our business has treated customers. In far too many cases we lie, cheat and rob our customer’s blind. We do things like stealing or bumping the trade, using hidden screens for disclosures, and sliding in a service contract. And when customers question us, we proudly don our Baghdad Bob masks and deliver our message of misinformation as we slither our way to maximum gross profits.

The End of Dealer Dictatorships

In recent years the internet has become a resource for the customer - enabling them to fight back by exposing dealer misinformation and providing the average citizen with power against the automotive dictatorships. That’s why I’m so amazed when Sales Managers still refuse to show customers the new car invoice because every manufacturer makes the information available on the internet. The good news is that the ancient philosophies of misinformation are being destroyed by the free flow of information and a more educated customer. So why not stop the abuse and surrender to philosophies, values and processes that create a win-win environment for everyone?

Authors note:
The connection to the atrocities in Iraq are intended to identify issues of misinformation only and are in no way intended to minimize the physical or emotional abuse that has occurred against the people of Iraq, or the price our troops have paid with their lives to defend the freedoms of humanity.
