With No Appearance of Evil
Simple practices can protect your character

It's always a tragedy when I hear the news that another athlete has been arrested for behaviors that are unbecoming of a professional, especially when it's someone as prominent as Kobe Bryant. You never know when or where your character will be tested. And you don't have to be famous to ruin your career.

Everyone comes under the microscope at some time in their life. As a professional in the retail automotive business, there are a number of situations that could cost you your job or worse. Most of these things are common sense. Others could be tossed aside as ridiculous. And each one has happened more than once.

Just 2 Beers

In many States, automotive salespeople are required to have a separate sales license. And in most cases, the personal driving record of the salesperson weighs heavy on their ability to maintain and renew their sales license. There are far too many stories of salespeople whose careers have ended because they decided to have "just a couple of beers".

We're Just Good Friends

It's certainly possible for Managers and their subordinates to develop positive friendships outside the office. It's also very difficult to keep the relationship appropriate when two people of the opposite sex meet regularly and privately. Not only does it create unnecessary gossip, it also can suggest favoritism and other potential problems.

The Employee Counseling Office

Whenever a counseling session takes place with an employee, there's always the possibility of trouble. Accusations of abuse can come when an employee is not happy with the way you deal with them. That's why it's a good idea to have another manager in the office during any counseling sessions.

Ancient wisdom suggested that we " "avoid any appearance of evil" in our lives. By keeping yourself away from situations that could come back to haunt you, you'll have a longer, better and more meaningful career. You also could save yourself a lot of personal pain and suffering.

We'd love to hear your thoughts on this subject. Post a comment.
