The One Minute Manager Revisited
Do these 20 year old strategies still apply?

It took the business world by storm in 1982 and spent over 2 years on the New York Times Bestseller list. The concept that managing could be as easy as three steps in three "one minute" segments launched the successful publishing careers of Ken Blanchard and Spencer Johnson. But is managing at the dealership as easy as one – two – three?

It may not be that easy, but the beauty of this book is that they outlined a strategy for success in less than 100 pages that averaged only about 250 words per page. A slow reader could finish the book in a few hours. A perfect fit for car people who, while usually of higher intelligence than the average Joe, haven’t picked up a book outside the dealership in 5 years.

So what can we learn from this approach?

Managing should be kept as simple as possible. The old "KISS" method (Keep It Simple Stupid) certainly still applies. And The One Minute Manager is about as simple as it gets:
- Set simple goals
- Praise your people regularly
- Reprimand when needed and then let it go

This is still great advice today. Unfortunately, too many automotive professionals don’t make the time to read even the simplest books, so they never gain insights into how they can improve their management skills. Jim Rohn says, "Miss a meal if you must, but never miss a good book"! Like The One Minute Manager.

Don’t have time to read a book? Then enroll in our management courses. They only take about 20 minutes and they provide excellent resources to help you become a more powerful and effective leader. Do it right now!
