Is it me, or have we all been magically transwarped back to the 60's for a lesson in the new dialect? Let me get to the point. Are you bothered when you say "Thank You" and the response back is "No Problem"? When did the term "You're Welcome" or "My Pleasure" get relegated to ancient history?
Whenever I hear someone say, "No Problem", I think of the guy on the beach with the long bleach blonde hair and the swimsuit hanging down just a bit too low. He's looking at the waves and saying, "Whoa, that's gnarly, dude!" Sorry, I just don't believe that language fits into a professional retail environment.
"No Problem" suggests the possibility that the customer may have been putting you out. That somehow he/she didn't deserve your time or efforts in meeting his/her needs or providing good service. Now if for some reason you were required to go out of your way, and the customer apologizes for being such a bother, I guess "No Problem" would be acceptable. But I think, "I'm glad to do it" is a better alternative.
I guess the real issue is to ask yourself whether or not you've allowed unprofessional or overly casual behaviors to become habits that negatively impact your success. Check your language and consider returning to a more professional style of expression.
