"How will your training make me money?" That is the question dealers ask when it comes to making a training investment for their Service Managers and Advisors. Are there some solutions that work better than others? Let?s begin by looking a how training often gets delivered to dealers.
Dealers complain to the manufacturers that there isn?t enough "quality" service training available. Once training is offered, they complain that it takes their people out of the dealership for too many days, so the manufacturers respond with distance learning initiatives. After the multi-million dollar LMS (Learning Management System) is in place, dealer personnel don?t use it because it?s too boring or not "real world" enough. The result is that few people get trained, results are suspect and both dealers and manufacturer executives consider the effort ineffective or a waste of resources.
Statistics prove time and time again that any training is better than no training, and a variety is better than just one type. That?s why we recommend solutions that incorporate all of our training strategies into our proposals. This typically includes:
- Dealer and General Manager launch meetings - Subject Matter Workshops - In-Dealership Implementations - On-line course work, testing and certification - Follow up in dealerships
The difficulty is in getting long term results when only one training model is requested. If, however, you choose only one model for training, we recommend training at your dealership because much of it takes place on the service drive. Here?s why:
"We tried to implement the service process on our own twice, with no success", said Chuck Matthews, General Manager at Fred Beans? Chevrolet Oldsmobile. "It wasn't until our Auto University Consultant worked with our Service Team (in dealership) that we were able to successfully implement the process. There is no other way our organization would even consider handling our customers any other way."
Implementing process change for maximum results requires live modeling. Very few managers are skilled enough to be able to model and coach their team sucessfully. That?s why Auto University trainers are unique. They're not only qualified and experienced; they?re skilled at implementing changes at the dealership level.
