Vehicle sales are down, there are too many dealers, too many salespeople, not enough customers, customer's expectations are too high, it's harder than it used to be.... sound familiar?
This "poor me" story is getting old.... give it up.
Here is a small dose of reality. According to Wards US Light Vehicle Sales Summary in 2004, there were 16,866,543 new vehicles sold, while in 2003 there were 16,639,053 sold. We all know that through attrition and amalgamation, there are fewer dealerships. Therefore, we see that fewer salespeople at fewer dealerships sold more vehicles.
You can whine about business, you can blame customer expectations going through the roof, or you can accept the fact that the real difference is YOU!
The reality of today is that salespeople of today hear the stories about the "Good Old Days" when customers were lined up with checkbooks in hand, and we simply asked "You buyin' today? No? NEXT!" and believe it.
The truth is, there were "days" where it seemed like they were lined up with checkbooks in hand, and we have "days" like those now, don't we?
Understand, what I refer to as the self-fulfilling prophecy - If I believe that I am the Greatest Salesman in the world - I will become so, regardless of outside factors. Subsequently, if I believe that the world is against me, everything around me will prove to make it so.
Stop with the "poor me" and move on to the "Great Me". You'll have a lot more fun and success.
