Kerkorian's Power Play
General Motors Bows to Request by Biggest Shareholder - And Dreamer.

Who could have imagined this headline just one week ago? "Exploratory talks" will soon begin among Renault, Nissan and the mighty General Motors of Detroit whose North American market share has been tumbling and losing money to the tune of $10.6 billion just last year.

Even more stunning, analysts say that if the merger goes down, Carlos Ghosn, who runs both Renault and Nissan, might take Rick Wagoner's place as Chief Executive Officer of the merged conglomerate.

A Big Dreamer or a Thinker? Or Both?

Hats off to Mr. Kirk Kerkorian, the owner of 9.9% of GM shares, if he can pull this one off.  It is his recommendation that an alliance be considered and that everyone involved has a lot to gain.

This past spring in Florida, I had the opportunity to witness Mr. Kirkorian having breakfast one morning. He was eating alone and writing some notes on a yellow legal pad - no doubt preparing some big plan, big takeover (perhaps even this one) and looking towards the future. How humble it all seemed; yet, great ideas are often hatched under similar circumstances.

True, talks are just beginning and the odds of putting a deal together seem pretty far-fetched. And yet isn't this how most of the great companies throughout history were initially hatched?

Thoughts are Things

Andrew Carnegie, John Rockefeller, Henry Ford... even our modern-day Donald Trump-all epitomize the word "entrepreneur".  They assembled alliances of people, power and money and made things happen.

Don't be afraid to think big and put your thoughts into action. Throughout history, it is that process or difference that has separated the great leaders and industrialists from the masses.
