A Rush to Judgment Can Cost You Big Money
She wore a hooded sweatshirt, cutoff shorts and open toe sandals...

Her hair was windblown and she looked like a nineteen year old as she walked onto the Saab lot and investigated our used convertibles. I was logging my last customer into the computer when another salesperson asked me if I'd like to take another up. He said he suddenly wasn't feeling well and needed to use the restroom. In truth, he'd prejudged her ability to buy. But I said, "Sure!"

Having learned from a top sales professional not to pre-qualify anyone,  I treated this lady the same as I treated every customer. I greeted her, asked appropriate fact-finding questions, provided a tour of our facility, and took her for a demonstration in a $36,000.00 9-3 convertible. Upon completion of the demonstration drive, we went inside to talk pricing. I have to admit I was a bit surprised as I filled out the credit application. Not only was this "young girl" 27 years old, she was a corporate attorney making six figures per year with $350,000.00 in the bank! She was just looking for a summer car to drive on the weekends. Her regular car was a 6 month old Toyota 4 Runner. Needless to say, that was one of my favorite sales of all time. Oh, and what about that other salesman? He wasn't really sick. Until he saw me writing up the order.
