'Find something you love to do and you'll never work a day in your life' |
At the famous Pike Street Fish market, they know how to have fun! It begins early in the morning and carries on into the night. A customer places an order to be shipped out of state. The salesman calls out the order to the cashier:
"Two King Crabs going to Montana!"
Without so much as a blink, the entire staff at the world famous market echoes the order boldly and with great enthusiasm: "Two King Crabs going to Montana!"
The exploits of this team gained so much notoriety that an entire video training series (and several books) have been written about how they learned to have fun at work. But that's a fish market and fish are funny. Is it possible to have that much fun working in a car dealership?
The Key is Proactivity.
There's no quesiton that the best days at a dealership are the days when everyone is selling cars and making money. And if your dealership has implemented processes that drive appointments, referrals, and repeat business to your showroom, then you're probably having a great time every day. But when things are slow, the secret to having fun is proactivity. Being proactive involves things like:
- Goal setting competitions to see who can sell the first car of the day, sell the most cars by 3 o'clock, or have the most appointments set/kept for the day.
- Vehicle walk-around competitions on Saturday morning to pump up your team or as an annual event when the new models come out. You can also do this with the competitive vehicles.
- Morning huddles and cheer sessions.
These are just a few examples of literally hundreds of ways to generate a fun environment at the dealership. Encouraging this type of atmosphere will promote long term employment, team member satisfaction and happier customers! "Two Door Sedan, going to New York!" |
