But who really pays in the long run?
We seem to want to rush through everything. The pressures and demands of the business are always telling us we need to do more in a shorter period of time. But the end result can cost us more time and a lot more money.

Case study: Pre Delivery Inspections

Service managers and technicians often get excited when a load of new vehicles gets dropped at the dealership. That's because, in their minds, it's easy money since the manufacturer pays them 1.5 to 2.0 hours on a job that they can blow through in about 20 minutes. The challenge is that these inspections often take place at the end of the day when technicians are looking for some gravy jobs. But how efficient or effective can the inspections be when your people are tired and, in many cases, it's dark outside?

Impact on Delivery, SSI and IQS

Now let's consider the end result. A vehicle that has not received a proper PDI can cause numerous problems for the dealership. First, it could be responsible for a bad delivery experience. This could cost a salesperson time and referrals. And how often does the service department have to drop everything to deal with a problem at delivery?

The condition of a vehicle at delivery also impacts Sales Satisfaction and Initial Quality Surveys. Poor scores in these areas cost salespeople, the dealer, and the manufacturer money. The Pre Delivery Inspection can be a good source of revenue for your service department and your technicians. Just remember not handle the inspection in a way that ends up costing other people on your team money.
