Achieving CHANGE means stepping outside of comfort zone
This is the first of four articles with the candidates for president, including Ralph Nader, John McCain and Hillary (and Bill) Clinton.
I caught up with Senator Barack Obama at a packed town hall meeting of 2,000
people in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania this evening, and I asked him how he intended
to win the White House. He said, “It’s about asking people to believe…not just
in my own ability to bring about change, but to believe in yours!”
During his exclusive interview with the Auto University editorial staff, I asked
Obama to clearly define “change,” and what it means to the greatest sales force
on the planet, the retail auto industry.
“It starts with listening to the needs of your constituents, I mean customers,
and giving them exactly what they want. People want new ideas that are
substantial, bold and different. The new Ford Edge has my vote.”
“My family can’t wait to drive it on our first trip down to 1600 Pennsylvania
Avenue.”
One of our editors commented that his new Edge gets about 27 miles per gallon.
“That’s a good start,” replied the Senator. “Rising gas prices and global
warming are a few of the real world problems facing our economy today.”
The Mini Deals
“I have an important suggestion for the auto industry sales force,” said Obama.
“Don’t forget the mini deals - those small commissions that add up at the end of
the month.”
“Our presidential campaign is built on $20 and $30 donations. Hillary and John
have largely looked for the home-run deals, and they’re few a far between.”
“We’ve done what the other candidates have not, and those mini deals have added
up to millions of dollars.”
“It’s a winning strategy at the end of the day.”
I thanked the Senator for his time, and wished him continued success in his
fight for the White House.
“It’s amazing what can be accomplished when we bring people together to seek
pragmatic solutions,” he concluded.
“Make sure you tell your Sales Managers that one.”
THIS INTERVIEW WAS FICTIONAL, BUT A LOT OF FUN TO WRITE!
