Success is M.O.N.E.Y. - The Chaplain of Bourbon Street

Attend an Auto University training event and you're guaranteed to hear the name Brother Bob Harrington at least once. The 79 year old "Minister of Bourbon Street" is often quoted in our materials and referred to when we speak about goals and success.

He spent over 20 years ministering to outcasts on the 'skid row' streets of New Orleans before devoting himself to spreading his message for success all over the world. He's been seen on Oprah Winfrey's show 17 times, spoken at major corporate events, and it was he who gave the invocation at Evel Kneivel's attempt to jump the Snake River Canyon. He even knows Michael Jordan personally, but says, "What's even more important is that Michael Jordan knows me!"

With a blend of humor, spiritual insight and the use of some rather unique props - a miniature flushing toilet to "flush my bad thoughts" Brother Bob brought us a message that made us laugh, made us think and made us focus on success in a way that no one else can. The topic was Money.

"When I look at money, I think of it as M-O-N-E-Y", said Brother Bob.

"M is motivation. I'm motivated by money. Checks are nice, credit cards are nice, but nothing is nicer than that green feeling of money tack a fifty dollar bill on the wall and tell your kids they can have it when they complete a task and it motivates them to do it."

"O is opportunities. Money gives me opportunies. What do we do with these opportunies? So many times people are in the back yard looking for four leaf clovers when opportunity is knocking at the front door. Don't wait for the door of opportunity to open, oil the hinges."

"N is now. The only time money is good is now. Today is the day. Don' t live in your past Be on time. You've heard the expression the early bird gets the worm? The early bird get's the money too!"

"E is exciting. I put my money on the night stand next to my bed when I get up in the middle of the night, I lay out my "Bennies" (short for Ben Franklin on the $100.00 bill) on the floor on the way to the bathroom and I jump over them. When I get back to bed my wife says 'you've been hoppin' Bennies again!' No need to be unproductive?"

"Y is you. You're identified by your money. I was with Donald Trump and we walked into a restraunt to have lunch. I asked, "have you got a reservation?" He said, "I own it". Everyone knows when Donald Trump walks in. His identity walks in."

Brother Bob concluded his money talk with the idea that, "You become what you think. The size of your success today is based on what your past thoughts have been" and "don't leave God out of the equation."

Dolly Parton said of Brother Bob, "If it hadn't been for him, I would probably still be at the Grand Ol' Opry. But he helped me see that I could conquer the world."

"The most important person you'll meet today", says Harrington, pulling a small round mirror from his pocket, "is the person you see in the mirror."
